:hmz: :hmz: I presume that it is not the same bird in breeding colours, juvenile and sub-adult then, is it??

Drat, not even sure I will get 1/8 for this one!
Thanks Lizet!

Challenge # 12 Answers
It didn’t go as bad as everybody thought with most of the people scoring 8/8 and the lowest 6/8.

#1 Shy Albatross – Black axillary patches, narrow black under wing borders and grey-olive bill with light yellow tip.
Image

#2 Black-browed Albatross – Dark back, Orange-yellow bill with red tip.
Image

#3 European Storm-petrel – pale under wing line is the most important with no
(contrast) pale wing panels on the upper wing.
Image

#4 White-chinned petrel – The white chin is the clue. In Spectacled Petrel the pale bill will show a dark tip..
Image

#5 Gull-billed Tern (non-breeding) – Very pale Tern with a very short stubby black bill and black patch behind the eye.
Image

#6 Red-necked Phalarope – Bill all length black, thinner and longer than Red Phalarope. White chin and sides of neck are rufous.
Image

#7 Black Tern (non-breeding) – Black shoulder patch and black head pattern in the non-breeding birds are the best features to use.
Image

#8 Eurasian Curlew – Unstreaked crown and very long bill separates this one from Whimbrel.

Now why did I pick the wrong Storm-petrel?? and as for the Red-necked Phalarope......well, wasn't even close :( (Memo to self - check ALL your bird books, birdbrain!)

Ok, now for raptors............ :?

Hi Guys, it is not as easy as it looks! Be careful! I am not the best bird identificator (is there such a word?), but I thought it was easy and got 5/8! I'm still very satisfied! :D

Well done Hilda! That is great....and at least you are trying.

I am sure that there are many who don't even bother to send theirs in if they think it is too hard. (I may just fall into that cetegory this time  )

Thanks Rookie, but please do try. I still think it is not as appalling as the LBJs! :D
