Are Flamingo's seen in Kruger NP on a regular basis or just as vagrants.
If so what area could be the best chance of seeing them and what time of the year.
The other two species that we are interested in are the Ground Hornbill and Secretary Bird.

Hi there E Orix
Flamingo's are not a regular sighting for Kruger, but they pop of from time to time in shallow pans. Somebody told me the other day that the guard/guide at Hippo Pools near Crocodile Bridge (he is a real wealth of bush information) sometimes sees them pass by. Depending where you are coming from when you visits Kruger you are sure to find Greater Flamingo in some of the Mpumalanga pans/dams between Gauteng and the Park.
We see Ground Hornbills on most trips to Kruger. They are widely distributed through the park, but not common. Likewise Secretary Birds can be found throughout the park, but I have seen more in the open drier parts to the north. We recently found a pair nesting near N'wambu Pan on the Tropic of Capricorn Loop (its the only little tree there for miles).
Enjoy

Flamingo are not common in Kruger, but the best time to find them is during the winter months July-August when the water levels are at its lowest which makes perfect feeding grounds for them.

Sunset dam near Lower Sabie attracts Flamingo every year without fail. Mostly Greater Flamingo, but there have been reports the last couple of seasons of Lesser Flamingo also visiting Sunset Dam.

Any permanent non flowing water source should be good for them during winter.

Secretary birds are best seen in places with extensive grass plains such as the H10 between LS and Tshokwane and the entire Satara area.

Ground Hornbill is also widely spread throughout Kruger and can be seen around most of the park. I have seen them around Satara, Lower Sabie, Crocodile Bridge, BergnDal, Skukuza, Letaba and Punda.

One road that I see them without fail is the main tar road between Satara and Olifants.

Secretary birds are often seen on the Nossob webcam, and flamingos in large numbers at a sewage works near TMNP.
