I've come to realise that the Index to Birds should not just be a "quicklink" to a post relating to a specific species, but should serve as an educational tool on the Forum - our very own Forum Bird Guide
Therefore I will from now on only add a species post to the Index once it contains a species description and photographs.
There are many examples of how this can be done:
A very basic one, but giving a quick yet good rundown on the key features of the species:Apalis, Yellow-breasted
Or (preferably) very in-depth information:Moorhen, LesserPenguin, Macaroni
You can obviously use other guides as reference material (but please don't do an EXACT Copy-and-Paste!), but the important thing is to highlight the key features that you personally found to be useful to make the succesful ID.
If you don't have pics, but want to contribute, then by all means PLEASE create the post! I'm sure soon there will be forumites adding their own pics to that thread!!! So as soon as the description AND pics appear in the thread, I'll add it to the index, okay!? And at the moment we "only" have 423 species listed, so a lot still to add. Note that once you've created a species post you must please PM me to point this out?
Please contribute to this?
It is fun and you can share your sightings with all. And more importantly in the process we are creating a Forum Bird Guide that will add value to the Forum and might in the process promote the Forum even more!
