Wouldn't completely rule out TF Prinia though

Johan van Rensburg wrote:Don't forget to possibility of it being a warbler... There I can think of a few that fits!

Trevor Hardaker wrote:I'm confused... and perhaps that's not all that surprising either...

But, to me anyway, both birds are clearly Tawny-flanked Prinias. Even although the angle on the second photo is difficult to assess properly, it still seems to be a TFP and I cannot correlate it with a Camaroptera or any other warbler for that matter. But, then again, I spend most of my time looking at seabirds and waders and try to avoid those tough LBJ's... :wall:

Ja Okay, really just wanted to show off my newest addition! :P

Nice pic Lizet.

Well, I've managed to find another photograph of the bird :cam: ...... although not a good one, and it does show the back and tail - darned undergrowth gets in the way! :x

Maybe someone can get a positive ID from this one. Any help much appreciated. :thanx:

The enigmatic post from Trevor actually tells you this is a tawny-flanked prinia. With that 20/20 your new pix adds up to 100% TFP, Dave.

Identification Help - LBJs

Unread postby Rookie » Wed Feb 29, 2012 10:35 pm

While I was sorting out my photos for my TR, I came across some other unidentifieds and I have looked through my Sasol book and can't pinpoint them, so again, I am asking the experts for a bit of help.

Sorry for the quality of the photos.

Thanks so much for all your help in IDing this bird. :gflower:

It is a first for me, or if I have actually seen it before, I didn't realise it.

I will have to go back to all the other photos of birds that I have from previous visits and try to ID them now.

It looks like a tawny flanked prinia to me.

A non breeding black chested prinia (with the band missing) has more yellow on the chest.

In this picture you can really see why it's called a Tawny-flanked Prinia.
