Here are a couple of pics I took in the park last Dec. if some of you experts could help me with. The second was in Satara - a great camp for birds (and humans). Nearest I could get to with this one was a Prinia.

Thanks

Your second birdie looks like a tawnyflanked prinia to me.

Hi there - I would appreciate some help identifying the following 2 birds...... (Taken in November 2011)

Photograph above taken at Lake Panic. I'm swaying towards Tawny-Flanked Prinia, but would appreciate another opinion.

Photograph above was taken at Skukuza, near the restaurant/river walkway. Was a very tiny bird, very skittish and always on the move in the dense undergrowth. I'm stumped for an ID on this one... Anyone?

Thanks for your help in identifying.

Dave

Dave, the first one is a tawny-flanked prinia.

The second one, I just don't see enough detail to make a call... Sorry.

That's the problem, this is the best photograph I managed to get of it - too many leaves/twigs in the way, and it was TINY. Thanks for taking the time to look.

Dave

I think your second bird is a green backed camaroptera (formerly bleating warbler). It can be approached, but stays within and around the undergrowth. It calls frequently.

Just wanted to mention Green-Backed Camaroptera, an immature.

I suppose the photo doesn't allow one to be conclusive of the ID, but they are very common in Skukuza, and just as Davejenny mentioned, they are very small and love the undercover of the vegetation there.

Wouldn't completely rule out TF Prinia though

Don't forget to possibility of it being a warbler... There I can think of a few that fits!

I'm confused... and perhaps that's not all that surprising either...

But, to me anyway, both birds are clearly Tawny-flanked Prinias. Even although the angle on the second photo is difficult to assess properly, it still seems to be a TFP and I cannot correlate it with a Camaroptera or any other warbler for that matter. But, then again, I spend most of my time looking at seabirds and waders and try to avoid those tough LBJ's... :wall:
