I've seen the ads in some outdoor magazines. I think its an interesting concept but probably about 8 years too late. I have the Sasol app on my phone, so have all the sounds etc anyway. Why should I schlep an extra device around? From what I remember, the apps are cheaper than that guide anyway.

Yes, it sounds great. But, like you two, I have PDA with Sasol, so have the sounds anyway. Super Christmas present for someone who hasn't got any other app.

Interesting concept, but I agree it is a couple of years too late and at R650, that is a lot of money to fork out for only a book and the little callfinder gadget.

I dont know. I also have an app on my IPad. But it strikes me that this gadget/book combo may be a little less intimidating to people who arent that comfortable with all the portable computing and networking devices.

I have the Sasol app, and there are many birds with no sounds yet, and only drawings. I still like a good photograph, so I might go for this book. Wish it was a little less pricey. Also, for those birds that I can't almost immediately ID from memory, I still find it more convenient to page through a book with several birds per page rather than checking the candidates out one by one on the screen...
