Is the bird on the left in the first pic a juvenile? The belly is much more blue than the other one. My guides doesn't indicate a difference between the sexes.

Yes, you guessed right. The bluish belly indicated it is a juvenile. Richard Harris's photo (first post on page one) is a very nice comparrison of an adult and a youngster.

Saw one from Skukuza Rest Camp in December 2010 :D
What a huge surprise that was!!!

Seen plenty of these birds along the Shingwedzi River @ Redrocks, Camp, and on drive to Kaniedood as well as at Pafuri opposite tha picnic site (often in the exact same tree)

Saw a couple of them on the road to Engelhart dam two days in a row, but they flew off in a hurry, so I only managed to get a far shot

Hi Everyone, Been going to the Kruger for years and haven't seen and IDed a Broad-billed Roller. However I did see one on 4th Dec. 2010 from the Red Rocks viewing area. Unfortunately it was quite distant so I went back to the car to get my lens convertor, but when I got back my wife said, "If you are looking for that bird it has just flown away". Don't you just love it when someone says that! There are some really nice pictures in the forum - particularly by Johann and Crested Barbet. Something to look forward to on my next trip. Bondm U.K.
