Big baobab trees with cavernous hollows seem to be a favourite site for nesting Mottled Spinetails. The colony of mottled spinetails that nests in the Sagole Baobab is probably the only remaining flock of Telacanthura ussheri that can be seen with relative certainty anywhere in South Africa. The tree stands in Venda, east of Tshipise.

The mottled throat and white patch on the lower-belly is diagnostic.
