Maurice,
I only get the occasional opportunity to visit the forum these days, but to get back to your pipits...

Bird 1 only based on pic 3 where you can see the white outer tail I would go for African Pipit.
Bird 2 unfortunately I can't see enough features, but probably also African..
Bird 3 based on the plain back and uniform colour on back and front I would go for Buffy Pipit.
Bird 4,5 & 6 probably the same species and I think it is an African.
Bird 7 Buffy based on plain back and not enough contrast between back and front colours
Bird 8 not enough features clear to make an ID but probably also Buffy based on the plain back.
Bird 9 Probably Buffy, but the front is not visible and can't make out the bill base

Hope it helps a bit...
Cheers
Lizet

Thank you very much Lizet for your help, it sure helps! It's a petty there's no plain-backed in-between there so far :D

Is there anyone who can say something about the birds in my previous post?

Thank you up front!

Maurice

Pleasure

The next post:
All of the Cisticolas are Neddicky unfortunately, Wailing has a much darker black mottled back.
The pipits look all like African to me..

Cheers
Lizet

Thank you once more Lizet!

Can you (or anyone else) say something about the Lark (bird 6 in the last post) I think it's a Sabota.

Thank you all for the help so far!!!

I really don't have a clue what this bird is, altho I think that it must be some sort of swift or martin? The white "windows" in the tail would point to rock martin, but the grey breast and russet rump? :hmz:

The last two pics looks like Greater Striped Swallow Arks.

Would say you are correct with the first pic

While it's of course possible that these are two different birds, according to the camera's time stamp, the photos were all taken within the same minute .... so I'd assumed they were all of the same bird? :wall: :hmz:

Should also mention that the pix were taken in Marakele in early April 2012.

I think the first one is Brown-throated Martin can't see any white windows on its tail

Thanks, Ladybirder. However, I'm still puzzled because I'd thought that all three photos are of the same bird, since they were all taken within the same minute. Does anyone else have any thoughts/ideas on these?

Definitely two different birds. You can see a notable difference in the wingshape and the second bird has streamers on its tail. Your last photo also clearly shows a dark back with a rufous rump not visible in your first photo which shows an all brown bird.
Brown-throated Martin and Greater-striped Swallow.

Thanks so much for your expert input, Johann! I can see now that they do have quite different features — it's their having been taken within the same minute that was confusing for me, but I guess our fancy digital cameras can shoot quite a few frames in 60 seconds

Fascinating topic this; one of my banes is identifying LBJ's with accuracy. Thanks for all the expert input here - it makes the ducklings believe they will get there one day.
