Hi all,
we saw this raptor flying over H14, January 10th 2011. Could you help me with the ID?

Not a great pic charbel, but my first instinct is a dark chanting goshawk.

Dear Bush Baptist,
Yes, the pic was not good. Cropped from a far away photo. Thanks for the tentative ID.
Any other opinions on this?

Cheers
Charbel

I'm thinking that this is most likely a steppe buzard, but I'm not entirely certain  Seen at WCNP in early December 2012.

I think so too! Black wing tips.

Agree with Steppe Buzzard  The pic is somewhat unclear and could be Jackal buzzard , but the JB has a brown tail whereas the SB has a much lighter tail on the underside . Both hav black wingtips .

I should have added 'on a pretty uniform looking brown bird'.

Hi, Could you ID this bird of prey, which I saw outside Punda Maria camp.

As you can see it was eating a young nyala but I didn't actually see the kill.

Thanks bondm UK

Thanks for your quick replies. I had the idea that it might be a young bateleur but wasn't certain.
Thanks again. bondm UK

A few years ago we came across a young bateleur pecking at a very fresh impala carcass. We concluded it was roadkill as there was nothing else around.
