I saw this interesting raptor near Rooiputs in the Kgalagadi in November 2012. First I thought it was a junvenile Southern Pale Goshawk but then the colour and stipes confused me. A friend of mine from our local bird club told me he thinks it is a juvenile SPG. Any comments? Sorry for the quality but the raptor was far up against the dunes and I had to crop (heavily) the image.

I'm thinking hard to see if I can make it into anything else, but Pale Chanting Goshawk (juvenile) is my first guess.

Saw this raptor in the western section of Mapungubwe at the beginning of the month. Juvenile Verreaux's Eagle?

This one was spotted on the Stapelkopdam Road near Mopanie - is it possible to ID it from this pic?

Hi Naomi

I think the first one is probably a African Hawk-Eagle, Busy moulting from Juvenile to Adult plumage.

I would say you are correct with the two Lesser Spotted Eagles, and the last one looks like a Dark Chanting Goshawk. I saw plenty of them in that area and particularly on Stapelkopdam road back in July 2013.

Good to see that there are birders from the future out here.

Any nice ticks lying ahead of us during the Shingwedzi BBW weekend after next?

I already saw that one twice. You are a useless Martie McFly. I wanted something way more interesting.
