Ferdelance is correct. Immature Brown Snake-Eagle.

Saw this one near Shimuwini earlier this year.

Hello,
I saw this bird this July in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
I thought it was a Jackal buzzard (juvenile) ... but I'm no longer sure of anything.
Please, what is your feeling with it ?
Regards,

yvo

Seen near Pretoriuscop at the end of October, I think this is a juvenile dark chanting goshawk but the eye is dark and the cere and legs are definitely yellow. :wall: :wall:

I don't know, the GISS just doesn't scream out Buzzard to me. Do you have any other photos of this bird? Maybe the horizontal posture puts me off course here. Furthermore the eye colouration is also interesting. I am trying very hard to make an immature rufous form of Ovambo Sparrowhawk out of this bird.

Hello wildtuinman,
Thanks for your interest !
Unfortunately, I don't have other pictures with other positions.
The bird flew away just after.

The first photo, did you crop it?

I would like to see how long exactly the tail is.

On food preferences I would go the buzzard route, as it is eating something furry. A sparrowhawk would be eating something feathery :hmz:

Hello wildtuinman & adrianp
The first photo is not really a crop... just a little bit (less than 10%)
The tail ends behind the small tree branch (white) on the left. (it is not cut)
I don't really know what the bird was eating, but it was furry.
If you want a crop from a part i'll do it.
Hope it's helps
yvo
