I lightened the pic a bit in Photoshop (would be better with higher res though) and the bird shows a small bill and dark eye which points to Orange-breasted Bush-shrike. Grey-headed has a very big, heavy bill and always shows a light coloured eye.

Agree with Johann's ID. For the bush-shrikes the bill is definitely the give-away. On another photo you might have been able to see the yellow forehead. Like Johann said the eye is also significantly different: Grey-headed Bush-Shrike has big yellow eyes. This is another example of birds you would never mistake in the field because of the size difference, but from a photo it can actually be quite hard!

Agreed with the latest ID.....I wish I could spend enough time time up in Pafuri Picnic Spot, to know which birds are always there or not  .... :D Never been there before!!

Charming1,
You just posted it the other way around. The first bird is a Orange-breasted BS. It has the grey head with a yellow eyebrow, olivegreen on the wing and dark eye.

I thank all those who have responded so far...Great to put names to pictures,. Some might say try ID yourself...but its not that easy! And when you get it wrong, oh my?? I would rather not.

All these pics were taken during June and July 2009 around Tsendze, Letaba and Shingwedzi
