Birdlife SA has got quite a few birdcall for sale as ringtones but I didn't see any Pearlies on there.

You can also try the Xeno-Canto website. They've got loads of birdcalls. Think there's only Pearly on there but it was recorded in Gambia, so I'm not sure if it is exactly the same as our local 'dialect'.

Hi Rusty Justy,

I didn't realise that it was Barred Owlet, Pearl-spotted Owl's look exactly the same.

Thanks for identifying it for me.

Could the mods please move it to the Barred Owl Post if there is one?

Thanks,

Samantha

Its a pleasure Mant! They are fairly similar looking.....the barring vs. streaking is a dead give away! Im sure many people have misidentified these 2 species before... :D

Pearl-Spotted Owlet.....

There is no sign of barring on this bird...one can see the spots in the head, the spots on the back, and especially the spotted tail.....All features one could use to seperate these 2 species.

Justin
