Since I am here, can I ask for a few more?

These were all seen at the Blyde River Canyon resort in September.

Identification Help - LBJs

Unread postby arks » Fri May 21, 2010 4:37 am

I'd also at first thought that the following two (which might in fact be the same bird, as the pix were taken at the Nossob hide about 2 minutes apart) were also chat flycatchers, but then I noticed the darker edges to the tail on bird #3 and began to wonder whether one or both of these (especially if they are the same bird) might be familiar chats?

The 2nd and 3rd birds, look like the same, much slender and smaller bills, have white eye rings and an orange tail...look like pale familiar chats to me!

Yet again, I'm not sure whether this is a familiar chat or a chat flycatcher, altho I'm leaning towards familiar chat. Seen in KTP in February 2010 — and very far away so also very cropped.

This one appears to have been passed over. Can anyone help?

The pic doesn't really give a lot to ID the bird on but I'm pretty sure it's a Familiar Chat. You can see the reddish tinge to the outer rectrices.

Thanks, deefstes, your input is always appreciated — especially with such a really poor image, with very little to help with ID.

Another entry in my ongoing familiar chat/chat flycatcher confusions. All three pix may in fact be of the same bird as they were taken within 3-4 minutes whilst sitting on my stoep at Grootkolk (but as it was over 3 months ago, I no longer remember definitely that it was the same bird — just that it's likely  )

I'm thinking that these are a chat flycatcher? Seen in KTP in February 2010.
