A year ago Marakele was terribly dry and on top of it all there were the veld fires. I would love to know how the Park is faring this year.
Anyone been there recently? :)

Hi
Been there today. Its still very dry and the lower part not enough grass for animals. This is more a management issue.
We however did not experience as many veld fires as the previous year. Still, expecting fires before the first rains arrive. At least so far the animals are in good condition.

Good to hear that the animals are still doing ok! Instead of KNP we will be visiting Marakele over the Christmas
holidays this year - really hope for some good rain soon.

We had between 25mm and 50mm in different areas in and around the Park. Will be going there today, expecting the best.

I am glad to hear it has been raining.
The park was very dry beginning of October, especially the first part.

Looking forward to hearing more news about rainfalls in Marakele.

Been there today. Although we need more rain, animals look good, much better than this time the previous year.

We visited the park over the weekend and found it to be very dry.
I got the feeling that the animals on the lower side of the park is starting to struggle, not enough grass. Cannot compare to last year as we were not there last year this time.
Also no impala lambs yet, but this is properly a good thing as the park is in need of some serious rain.
On our way back yesterday we did encounter substantial rain so I really hope that it moved over towards the park.

Anyone been to Marakele since the beginning of the week or going there this weekend? Just wondering if the rain that PietSkiet mentioned did reach the Park. :D
