Golden Gate: Roads

Unread postby simonbee » Thu May 03, 2012 7:23 am

Hi

I am looking to stay at Highlands Mountain Retreat in June, cold but the clear air should make up for that.

What is the road access like to the cabins, is it tarred? would a normal family sedan have any problems getting there?

We've done it twice in a sedan - a Honda Ballade. There's one bit with a very steep incline which gave us a few laughs in October last year. It was loaded with 4 adults and luggage. 2 Adults had to walk a bit to get the car up there. But unloaded, it made the trip easily every time.

It's a paved road all the way to the top. We made some photographs of the surface, will have to go look for it though.

Here are 3 photo's made last year. Not the greatest, but shows you what the road looks like recently.

Road as seen from the Retreat.

The Honda in my first post is seen in the top right corner.

A close-up of the surface. It looks like that from the bottom.
