We spend a quick weekend in Marakele at the end of October. We really enjoyed this park with its bushveld atmosphere. The camping site is great with a fantastic view of the watering hole. The animals were coming and going all the time. It was quite hot and the demand for a drink was obviously high. Some also took a dip and then spend some time in the shade.

We saw more than enough game.

The sunsets were awesome with the threatening thunder that unfortunately brought no rain.

A visit to the top of the mountain is an absolute must.

The highlight of the trip was the visitors on late Saturday afternoon.

We would love to return one day!

Hi HoepHoep,
I always wanted to but could never fit Marakele into my itinerary--maybe next time. The close encounter with the Rhinos, in itself, is worth the trip.

The trip up the mountain is not that bad!

The people in the chairs prefered the standing position for a possible get-away :D

To those stay in Gauteng Province Marakele National Park has become a weekend away from home; with only 250 KM drive from Pretoria; surely one can enjoy the tranquility these National Parks has to offer. Without a doubt you will be considering to spend a weekend in Marakele National Park.
The Park is a home to most of the large mammals synonymous with the African bush, including elephant, black and white rhino, and leopard. Large Predators such as brown hyena, leopard and now also lion, occur in the park. Resident antelope include sable, kudu, eland, impala, waterbuck, tsessebe and many smaller species. Chacma baboon and vervet monkey are two species to be watched carefully for mischief, particularly around the rest camps.

Marakele National Park also has activities that will keep you intrigued, those that love playing in the bush the Marakele 4x4 trail seems to be the perfect option together with other activities listed below; with our reliable and informed tour guides the Marakele 4X4 trial is the best.

• Bird watching and game viewing.
• Mountain pass up to an incredible view and proximity to the Cape vulture colony.
• Morning and Sunset drives available.
• Morning and Sunset Bush walks available.
• Two nights 4x4 eco trail available.
• Two nights hiking Trail opening soon.
