Thanks for the update. What a pity that the tree top walk and hide are still not open I was so looking forward to seeing them.

The treetop walk is open. It is just the actual hide at the very end that still needs repairing. We watched ellies crossing into the riverbed last week and thoroughly enjoyed the peace of the walkway - one of the best bush experiences we have had, closely followed by the confluence viewpoint. Go! You won't be dissappointed. :)

Is the Treetop walk fully functional again?

Jen,

I have phoned Mapungubwe reception and according to them the treetop walk is open, however they are still busy fixing the hide which will only be finished during October 2014.

I sent a query about the Treetop and Maloutswa hides to the Mapungubwe Hospitality Manager and this is the reply that I received this morning:

"Treetop walk has been partially opened and we waiting for pending Insurance claims to repair it completely.

Maloutswa bird hide is not yet opened , reconstruction is in progress. The delay was due to the fact that it was submerged under water since our last floods and we had to wait until water is completely finished."

When I asked whether there was any chance that either hide would be reopened by the end of October 2014 (which is when I will visit the park), I was told that it was highly unlikely, "due to the fact that after we get approval for insurance claims it will have to go on tender which is a lengthy process as well."

Thanks for that feedback Arks.

Rather disappointing for you, I am sure.

At least a portion iof the treetop walkway IS open, MM, so not a total disappointment. Plus just visiting Mapungubwe is a special priviledge. so I'm sure I'll have a rewarding time!
