Mapungubwe - 4 X 4 needed?

Unread postby nobbysbev » Wed Oct 15, 2014 1:35 pm

Hi All,

We have booked to go to Mapungubwe in January 2015. We are travelling in our 4X2 Ford Ranger Bakkie.

Does anyone know if the 4x4 routes on the maps are accessible to a 4x2??
If so , please can you tell me which routes/roads are accessible

I'm really looking forward to this trip either way....

Hi nobbysbev,

I suggest you read more about the roads and 4x4 routes Here and Here.

About 35km of the park is accessible with a sedan or 2x4, however the 4x4 routes is only accessible with 4x4 vehicles.

Hope the above info helps  .

I have done all the 4x4 routes with a 4x2.

Wet times may be more challenging.

Check the current rules though.

The Ranger should be fine I have done all the route with a Bakkie (Nissan Hardboy) that is 2x4. I think the main thing with the 4x4 only is to stop the people trying to do it with a little car that doesn't have the needed ground clearance. Because it does get a little "lumpy" at places.
I live in my own little world. But it's okay they know me here.
