Marakele nightdrives.

Unread postby Leonmars » Fri May 16, 2014 2:59 pm

Hi.
Can anyone tell me a bit more about night drives in Marakele? I'm specifically interested in the chances of seeing smaller nocturnal mammals - porcupines, seval, African wild cat, brown hyena, aardvark etc. Time frame is March.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Leonmars,

On the Activity page for Marakele they only mentions Morning and Sunset Drives.

In Nov 2012 we had a night drive in the park from Haak & Steek Camp, so unless they have changed it, drives were available.

We had some good sightings of molesnake, springhare, aardwolf and a Rufous-cheeked Nightjar with two chicks from what I can remember.

Although the best part of the drive was when we stopped and switched off. On the distant horizon there was a thunder storm with lightning flashes, overhead the milky way in its fill glory, and absolute silence all around...

Imax I'll move your Mokala Night drive info over to Arid parks at a later stage.

Anyone else knows about night drives in Marakele??
