I am posting these photos on behalf of NetEk
First one is where the Koloempies river meets up with the Limpopo.
Second one is the Shashe, Limpopo confluence.
They are both after the waters started to subside.

As I have said before - lots of information and photo's of KNP but not so much of Mapungubwe. Really appreciate these postings.

@ Dave - so sorry we missed each other. We had a great time at Mazhou, despite the terribly dry conditions -
even got the exact same campsite!

Leokwe will be ready by Saturday. The Mapungubwe team is working around the clock to ensure that it will be in a good state by tomorrow.

I love the photos , we were there last year in May and it was very dry but we enjoyed every moment.

Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage Site (MNP&WHS) has re-opened its doors after a week’s closure due to heavy floods in the park. The Park was closed on Monday, 21 January 2013 and has now been reopened to the public, except for the museum which will reopen later in the week.

Park Manager, Fhatuwani Mugwabana said “The mop-up operation is still underway, with most operations almost back to normal. Although we still have another week before we can reopen the museum, the rest of the park is open to the visitors.”

“For those who want to sleep over, our camps, including Leokwe and Limpopo Tented Camps, are open and ready to welcome them” he said.

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously and stay within the demarcated roads as the roads are still wet and slippery.

Staff members, who reside at staff houses were highly affected by the floods but are all safe and currently receiving trauma counselling.

“Most of these staff members were traumatised by the experience but we are doing all we can to ensure that they get help and resume with their duties.” concluded Mugwabana.

The Park is open for day visitors everyday between 06h00-18h30 and can be contacted at (015) 534 7923/4.
