Wow! Great to hear about the new circular route to and from the suspension bridge! Anyone know what route it follows? The old path used to be there an back on the same path. Does it go left and back or along the rocks at the bottom?

Thanks

Hi Ebert,

The loop doesn't run all the way from the restaurant. The first part of the track is still "out-and-back". It starts low down then goes up-and-down a bit, before reaching a high level.

Then you get to the start of the loop. If you stay at the high level, you eventually reach some steps down to the bridge across the river mouth.

Coming back, you can go across the two new suspension bridges, then the path climbs to rejoin the main track at the high level.

Regards,
Roger

Hi Roger

Thanks a lot. My family have been going to Tsitsikamma National Park since 1970 when apparently there was nothing but a few fishermans paths, thus we are all very excited about this new development. (It's great to see the old pic's)

I have childhood memories of the Loerie Trail, the walk to the river mouth and Uitkyk and the the Waterfall Trail. Later the Blue Duiker was added but appart from that as far as I know no new day hiking trails in and around the restcamp was ever added.

The way you describe the "new" trail makes perfect sense. It would otherwise either have to go up the hill and around to where the staff village is and back or you would have to spent some serious time exploring rocky shores!

Thanks again

Ebert

There are two hiking trails that are not fully shown on the map you get at the gate, but which are signposted on the ground. One branches off the Blue Duiker trail and goes up to meet the camp access road at a spot called the Fynbos Garden. There is also a trail from somewhere near the park entrance to the coast, which meets the waterfall trail part way along. I haven't walked either of these myself, but SO explored the Fynbos Garden trail.

Regards,
Roger

This picture is one week old (just returned from SA...) - you can see both bridges. The picture was taken from the upper way of the circular route.

In the December 2009 issue of the traveling magazine "Weg" is an amazing picture of the three suspension bridges, taken from the outlook on the eastern side of the river. From their website I could download this low resolution version. Saffies should try and get a copy of this issue of this magazine. to really enjoy this stunning view.

The suspension bridges are also on the front cover of the magazine. (Some good positive press for a change.)

I cannot wait to see the new bridges. My family has been going to Storms River since I can remember, and the changes and improvements they have made each year are very impressive.

This is by far the biggest one I've seen so far.

Going there this December, and the days cannot go by faster. Will take some HD photos/videos when I'm there. If anyone is interested in getting these, will post them.

First post btw :)

Okay I'm a bit confused...can you do the circular route without going on the semi-luxury dolphin hike?

I'm assuming so, but want to make sure.
