Storms River Mouth Honeymon Cottages

Unread postby gqueen » Fri Apr 17, 2009 3:42 pm

Hi All,
We stayed in the honeymoon cabins 2 years ago and loved them. They are no longer listed on the Storms Rivers Mouth site. What happened to them, and when did it happen?

Hi George

I am not sure of the answer to your question, but when we were in Stormsriver during January 2008, they were busy renovating the older chalets. The ones nearest to the restaurant were finished and they were busy on some of the chalets in the vicinity. That may very well be the honeymoon one's. The honeymoon chalets have been around for quite some time and maybe they will ever be more stunning after renovation.
We also visited Stormsriver on our honeymoon, but did not stay over at the time and now I regret it! That was way back in 1981!!
We will be in Stormsriver during May and will be staying in the renovated ones and I will report back on the "missing honeymoon chalets" on my return.

Greetings
Johan

Hi George

We have just returned from Stormsrivermouth and I have bad news and good news.

Bad news: The honeymoon cottage have been demolished, level to the ground.

Good news: The honeymoon cottages have been rebuilt. Brand, spanking new in exactly the same location. Construction on two have been completed and the third are almost finished. All three were empty while we were there so I could peek through the window and I can advise you that now is a good time for a second honeymoon!

Any update on these units? They are still not on the system.
When will they be available again and what will their price be?

The honeymoon cabins are units 16a, 16b and 17. When I asked the reception at Storms river how to book these units on the website the guy told me they were called honeymoon chalets. I replied that "honeymoon chalets" were nowhere to be found on the website and he than said: "just give a call to this office and tell us the number of the unit you want".

My conclusions:

1: the site should be adjusted and it should be possible (like it used to be) to book the honeymoon chalets under that exact name.

2: as long as this has not happened, just book a chalet for two persons and than call reception to specify which unit you want (16 a, 16 b or 17, 16 a being my personal fave).

Honeymoon cottages - Storms River

Unread postby TAL » Wed Jan 13, 2010 11:51 am

I have just upgraded my original booking of a CH2S to a Honeymoon cottage with the call centre. I was wondering if anyone knows whether the cottages have outdoor braai facilities - it doesn't say on the website, only mentions a kitchen. Also, the online availability seems to indicate there are now 4 cottages, whereas before the renovations there were 3 - is this correct?

Also, the call centre applied the conservation fee against the increased charge for the cottage, meaning there is a balance of R18 for accommodation plus the conservation fee to pay on arrival. The confirmation letter says "Provisional Reservation" at the top, but I was assured I could pay the balance on arrival. Should I be concerned? I would hate to lose the booking for R18.

Howzit TAL & welcome to the forum.

The reservation should be ok. What does it say about paying the balance.

BTW, I would have thought that the conservation fee is payable on ENTRY, as it is a daily charge.

Have you considered getting a Wild Card?

Howzit!
I decided to be pro-active and see if the reservation had updated on the online reservations system. It did after about 3 hours, so I paid the balance online and now have a proper confirmation letter - phew.
I did look into the Wildcard, but since we are not resident in South Africa it was really expensive, much more than 2 days fee for Tsitsikamma.
Any thoughts on the braai?

Hi Tal

Yes they do have an outdoor braai. It is behind the enclosure (for the wind and privacy) in the foreground of the photo.

Enjoy your stay.

Hi penolva

When I look at the description it should be either Cottage HC2 or Cottage OC2

I booked HC2 for 3 nights next august even if I'm not on a "honeymoon trip" :D
(but each trip with S.O in Sanparks is in fact an Honeymoon trip) :k
I wonder if H stands for Honeymoon ?

Hi I wondered that but there are 4 HC2 so 4 honeymoon cottages seems a bit odd. Only one OC2 and that one says ocean views from every room but no photographs of it. Its a mystery. Perhaps someone else has the answer. Sure we will all have a great time anyway. thanks Pen

Hi Penolva

Please see andycapepoint's post and photos here .
I assume that Cottage (OC2) is the honemoon cottage as that is the only cottage that has a N/A for additional adults and children  .

Hi thanks for the link to the OC2 photos? or are they. On the map of the place 8a, which is mentioned in the post, is amongst others, although detached. Yet there are four more nearer the ocean. I have emailed Sanparks for clarification and also the size of the bed. We usually like a twin, we are on the 'large' size, can make do with a queen size but a regular double is too small. Any ideas anyone? Thanks Pen :gflower:
