Hello,
in Dec 08 we (2 adults and one 6 year old child) will spend our holidays in SA and we plan to camp there. Now I have some questions: Whats about the safety on the campgrounds along the Garden route and in the National Parks? Has somebody recommendations for us? Do we have to book the campgrounds in advance too?
Thanks and kind regards from a cold Munich
Anja

Hi and welcome

The national parks are all very safe. You will have to book camp sites in advance, particularly for December. The garden route is very popular in December, you are going to struggle finding accommodation in the garden route national parks as they are grabbed up in January 2008 already. Do keep checking, there are often cancellations, I booked for Dec 07 in June 07 by checking daily.

I would recommend Tsitsikamma (usually very very full in December), Wilderness and Addo.

A quick look at the availability in December 08 shows that there are is accommodation available in Tsitsikamma, Wilderness and Addo, book asap before they are all gone.

Hi indiax99, and welcome to the forums! :D

Senyetse (our "Advisor of the Year") has given you great advice. I've just come back from a long weekend in the Wilderness National Park, and the camp sites and facilities looked great!

Can I assume from above comments then that the campsites at Wilderness Ebb & Flow are back to normal after the flooding and we can expect to be camping on lovely green grass along the banks of the river. Would hate to get there (end April) and have to pitch our tents on muddy patches.

Munchkin, I can't say whether they're "back to normal" because it was my first visit. But there was definitely lovely green grass along the banks of the river. :D

Munckin, it should be back to normal by now, it already was by the end of December, but one thing that you must understand is that the Southern Cape is now entering its rainy season. So dry patches might be few and far between.
