I will be visiting Mountain Zebra for the first time and need some info on the restaurant - Quality of food, variety of menu and ballpark pricing of mains. Any info would be much appreciated.

We had supper there in December and it was five star all the way. The menu was creative, the food was well presented, the service was excellent. The prices were also fairly reasonable.

Our Mountain Zebra meal.

Lamb shanks, taken with my cell camera, so not the best :cam:

Just a lovely evening. Note the enthusiastic tucking in.

We went for an evening meal, so we treated ourselves to a Karoo favourite of lamb shanks. It was a similar price to most Johannesburg restaurants. I cannot remember the exact price, but the meal, for 4 adults came to about R670. That includes a bottle of red wine, 3 desserts, bottled water and coffee.

I noted that there was a very good breakfast choice and also a wide variety of choice for children.

Unfortunately there is not much on the menu for a vegetarian the same at most restaurants so I had to have those small spring rolls and samoosa's which were very nice with a plate of chips and salad. my wife who eats animals loves the food there.

Greetings All,

Thank you HeatherY for starting this topic. I am a Restaurant Manager at Mountain Zebra Restaurant. Feel free to ask any questions. I will also be posting our current Ala Carte Menu soon.

Hi Jen, you can most definately come for dinner at the restaurant. The restcamp gate closes at 18:00 during the winter months and at 19:00 during summer months. Just make sure you are in the restcamp before these times and when you are finished at the restaurant, we will arrange the restcamp gate to be opened on your way back to the mountain cottages.

Cheers
Anelle Paxton

... and you get a self guided night drive to boot

We were there in 2007 and the food was brill - judging from the comment in the current "Wild" mag (p. 23) the standard hasn't slipped.

We will be back again in August - hoping the brandy pudding is still on the menu

(and that the new big kitties show themselves)

Hi Brummie, our menu has changed since your last visit in 2007. Unfortunately the brandy pudding is not on the menu, but we serve a delicious chocolate mousse cake with orange liqueur and espresso coffee which I can recommend. Hope to see you in your upcoming visit in August!

Cheers

Enjoy your holiday trip.
We were at MZ in 2011 and it is as you know a wonderful park.
We also dined in the restuarant and the food and service were both exceptional.
However ensure you maintain your dainty figure!!
Hope to see you soon
Regards
JDW

Thanks for the advice
Hmm. I think I could do with losing a hundredweight (that's about 50 Kg in funny money) before I arrive :? .

But no brandy pudding? Oh man's inhumanity to man
