Hi

We're of to the Karoo NP in a couple of weeks for the long weekend, staying at Embizweni cottage so rather excited!

Anyway, we are traveling up from Cape Town Friday after work so won't get into the park before closing.

Can anyone recommend a place to stay at Beaufort West?

Thanks.

Hi sucramuk

You are probably not going to be able to drive to your cottage after the gates to the game area close (as I assume it is not in the main camp), but are you aware of the gate hours of the park? Perhaps an extra night in the main camp?

Quote:
Gate Hours

05:00 – 22:00
Arrivals after 22:00 are not permitted without prior arrangement.
The reception office is open from 07:00 to 19:00.
Visitors with reserved accommodation who will arrive after 19:00 must make prior arrangements to collect the keys to their accommodation at the entrance gate. Please call the camp at Tel +27 (0)23 415 2828.

@ 'Mites, pls PM sucramuk with non SANParks accommodation suggestions.

DinkyBird - my exact thoughts too!

sucramuk:

There is a security guard at the entrance gate and I am sure that if one can organize with the office beforehand, the key to the chalet can be kept by the person at the gate. Then you can go to the office next morning after 7. All bookings for chalets include a breakfast in the restaurant - not to be missed!

You will enjoy Embizweni - take along warm clothes for the evenings and early mornings, winter has arrived here in the Karoo. I hope that you will be lucky to see the beautiful lions of the Park - they are more or less in that vicinity.

If you want more info, feel free to PM me.

Leana

Hi Sucramuk,

If you only get there late at night, you pay a considerable sum of money to sleep IN the park without really seeing or experiencing much -- poor value for money.
There are many budget establishments in B/West for about R350-400 for the night per couple. Just Google -- Youngs, Vitra etc.

Hope you see those lions! (maybe walking in the snow....?)

Do let us know what it was like...

God bless,

Friedrich von Hörsten

 Sucramuk - good news, although extremely cold after the latest cold front - minus temperatures at night at the moment - you will not be walking in the snow, but will enjoy the wonderful sunny days which make the Karoo winters so special.

I keep my fingers crossed that you will be able to meet our beautiful lions - ask at reception where they are at the moment   and just maybe you can reward us with good :cam: . But apart from the lions, you will enjoy all the other game and the peaceful surroundings of the Karoo National Park. The park also has a brownie or two, not sure, think two of them - very hard to find.

Enjoy all the 4X4 trails, take coffee and rusks, make breakfast at the picnic spot near the 4X4 turnoff to Embizweni and enjoy the time in the Karoo. The moon and stars are so beautiful at the moment  We are on our way to Kruger and I cannot wait to see the moon shining on the Sabie River - and enjoy a bit of not so cold weather.
