Great video, Ossendrywer.

IMO these are two male tortoises from different species, and one is under attack of the other 'territorial' male.

The big bloke is a Sulcata Tortoise: The African Spurred Tortoise and the other a Southern Leopard Tortoise. (I might be wrong, though). :hmz:

You must see our two tortoises getting along with their inter-species fights. The LO always ends up on his back, rowing in the air to nowhere.

We also have the BO (Big One) charging our gardener at full speed. Full speed, I tell you. If tortoises get aggro, they can move. And as a further power display, pushing our heavy lawnmower all over the lawn, with a ferocity one can't believe.

(They will be taken to a place of safety soon, btw. Where they will be able to eat and meet and bred with their own).

C2111 - It is!   We recorded it a couple of years ago... Will try to find the video.

OD, it is quite a normal phenomenon for interspecies males to fight. Some species are quite aggressive with other tortoises, and fighting may result in potentially serious injuries around the eyes and on the legs. They ram and bite each other (our leopard tortoise is forever chasing the lil' tortoise in summer), sometimes causing the loser to flip onto its back and suffocate (our lil' one seems to find it relative easy to get on its feet again. Fortunately so. )

C2111, indeed.   Tortoise wars. The LO is also a lil' rascal. He'll easily attack the BO. No problemo. So the outcome of each wrestling match is not based on size only.

They surely are lovely and intelligent souls. Especially when they lay their heads down on our feet. Or eat the dogs' poo.  Or chow on a juicy garden snail.   Or when the BO 'burps'.

However, sadly, we realise that they will be way better off in their natural environment. :(

They eat the dog poo and kill the snails!! what a barGAIN!! 8) They are gardeners you don't have to pay 8)

But it sounds like the little rascal is driving the big one to drink ... thus the burping :slap:
