Over the past few years, one of our forum members, JDW, has made a number of donations of binoculars, cameras and other equipment (e.g. for Addo's marine team) for use by conservation and tourism staff in our Frontier Region Parks.

We would like to say a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to JDW and those he has facilitated donations from for the much needed equipment. We - and especially the staff in the field - really appreciate these donations.

The latest round of donations included binoculars and a camera and were allocated as follows:

One pair of binoculars and a monocular to Senior Trails Guide Michael Paxton - Michael uses the binoculars for spotting and identifying wildlife and especially birds (he's a keen birder!) at a distance on the walks and drives he leads in Mountain Zebra National Park. Visitors who may not have their own binoculars can use them too. Michael in action:



One digital camera to Senior Section Ranger Robyn Woods in Mountyain Zebra National Park - Robyn uses the camera for many aspects of conservation (including record keeping and data collecting) and here she is photographing vegetation for identification and record purposes:



One pair of binoculars to Field Guard Alfred Jaantjies - Alfred guards teams of people working in Addo Elephant National Park's Working for Water programme, eradicating invasive alien plants. He uses the binoculars to spot wildlife at a distance to keep workers safe.

One pair of binoculars each to Working for Water Field Guard Stephard Bezuidenhout and a Field Ranger in the process of being appointed in Camdeboo National Park.
