Hi Henk,

These Cheetah were not introduced. As far as I understand, they escaped into the park from a neighbouring property. There were 3 initially, but one was captured straight away and put in the bomas. The remaining two were apparently captured too, but this is obviously not the case.

An incredibly lucky sighting. But, they are not endemic to that area of the park, so unfortunately I agree they should be recaptured and sent home.

Hope this helps.

We spotted both of them last Friday (Nov 14) on Ngulube loop - so they are still there

Hi Henk,

A friend saw them yesterday close to the south entrance of the Ngulube Loop. They were stalking Zebra apparently. From pics on the FB group, it looks like they were stalking Hartebeest too.

I can't really understand this. The question on Cheetah in Addo has been asked many times with the answer that they were not found there originally, so they won't be introduced. Now, apparently 2 breaks into Addo on their own and all of a sudden that's okay. I don't mind them be there and hope to see them when going there in January, but I'm just wondering.

Dear 'Mites;

I have sent an email to my colleague Fay who is based in Addo to assist us with this. Please also remember that most of the staff are on leave so please expect a delay in some of the responses.

In the meantime, I am wishing you all a wonderful and safe festive season :gflower:

Hi all

Yes, the cats made their way into the park from a neighbour's property. It is also correct that cheetah aren't endemic to the area, so they will have to be removed. They have not yet been captured, as they are extremely skittish. Once conservation staff succeed at this, they will be moved to another area of the park - possibly towards the north.

Until then, enjoy the sightings!
