Pics look great! What wonderful sightings you had! I agree, thé park for lifers. Black-footed cat, aardvark and aardwolf would be lifers for me and next to that lion and black rhino...would immediatly sign for that!

Before heading to MZNP last month I'd heard people say the road from the main gate is excellent for seeing amazing things ... and then found this guy not 100m into the park!!

Super pic!!! And what a special sighting, thanks for sharing.

Many years ago we also glimpsed one on that road, but it was low light and far away.

Greetings All

Here is a update of the big cats.

Here are the boys resting up in the area above the camp.
Image

They were well fed but as one can see still on the look out for some steak.
Image

The lioness also in good shape.

I have transfered to Addo Elephant Natonal Park so this could be one of my last posts for Mountain Zebra.
I was up there for the weekend and whilst there the males caught a large kudu bull and a buffalo calf on sunday evening. The males are currently north of the main camp and the lioness is on the top of the link road.
Would love to post the males roaring but the clip is 78mb.

Cheers

A friend of mine went to SA for the first time in august with his kids. I recommended MZNP to him (he was already planning to go to Addo)

"Any luck with the cats?" I asked when I saw him back this week. "Nope", he said, "but in MZNP, not even 200 metres after the entrance gate, we saw 2 aardwolf next to the road and observed them for half an hour without any one else around us before they walked off. And we saw caracal and hyena in Addo.

In case this Travel Tale did not get you to visit MZNP, the little gem of the Eastern Cape, maybe this sunset drive we took on the 22 December 2013 might change your mind
