Is that also known as the black-footed cat? Would love to see one. In fact I think that is the first recorded sighting of one by a formuite. What special sighting.

Same question as Saraf! Never heard of "small spotter cat". Is that the black-footed cat? Would be the sighting of the year then.

Anne Marie, it was an unforgettable experience. The only warning that I would give is to have a fair level of fitness if you really want to enjoy it. We had to walk fairly fast to keep up with a hungry Cheetah. Even though we did not have to walk far, it was a bit of a trot. I was very grateful not to be a smoker.

I have done a few visits to this Park, the last one stayed in one of the mountain cabins for a few nights. A question that always comes to mind is why no mention of leopard? I can not believe that in an area like this there are none if one considers the amount of leopard that still are to be found close to towns in the Western Cape (according to work done by the Cape Leopard Trust). Any comments as to why this may be?

So Sorry! I read the subject heading to be about "Park Activities Sightings" not just about tracking cheetah. Hence the question about leopard. My apologies.

Game drive last night. Saw about 24 species of animals and birds. It was spectacular, because I saw what I really wanted to see - aardwolf. And we saw FIVE of them!

And to end the night we saw porcupine and aardvark - a truly special evening.

Wow, then you've been really lucky, Kay123.
We've been with Michael on a nightdrive two weeks ago and only saw 2 aardwolf, porcupine and a caracal. :wink:

Not to mention lots of antelope including a new born. Plus a cheetah... :dance:

One of the best drives ever! Michael was great explaining everything.
That was only fair regarding the boring nightdrive we had in Karoo NP some days later.

Greetings All

The drives have been good in the evenings, with many Aardwolf and even a den sight on the Ubejane.

The cheetah tracking is still doing well. We have seen one of the Females (Angela) getting romantic with the male coalition. So maybe in a couple of months we will have some cubs running around.

Just returned from my 4th visit. Pleased to hear that Lion will be released into the Park. Makes the trip from Jnb worth it. Did elephant ever occur naturally in the area? Nice progress photos of the nest.
