We were in the ADDO from 23 to 29 September 2009. This was our first time in ADDO.

Well ... bookings for September 2010 opened today and we booked for the same month next year in the ADDO.

It was realy amazing and we had great sightings. On three of the days we saw lions and in one morning we saw two different groups of lions. We saw the lioness with her 3 cubs early morning near Zuurberg and an hour later the two male lions from the Orion dam area walking in an open road next to the road towards Zuurberg.

But is was the Ellies and the Buffalo competing for the same waterhole that I enjoyed the most. Also the Ellies at Hapoor was amaizing.

We saw 'n week or two old Hiena cub, 2 Jackol killing a waterhog, a baby Ellie abandoned by the mother, a fight between 2 rhinos, a Ellie and a rhino charging each other. We also saw a Hiena eating a dead buffalo at the floodlighted waterhole.

I have no idea how to load photos, but will send some of the photos to you if you give me your e-mail adres.

Thanks for every ones advice before the trip.

We were in Addo around the same time and had some of the same sigtings. The spectacle at the floodlit waterhole with the hyena, jackal, black rhino and elephant was absolutely breathtaking - something I'll never forget.
We also briefly spotted the lioness with the three cubs.
Then there were the 2 jackal at Carol's Rest, scavenging off the warthog. We spoke to the ranger and they said that the jackal would not have killed the warthog, as they're too agressive. At a stage the jackal turned the carcass over and we could see that most of it had been eaten. There were only scraps left, which these jackal finished off. Just up the road there was a third jackal waiting in the wing for his turn. I got some really nice photo's of this and will post them. If you look closely at the jackal, it is clear that one is a nursing female.

We were also lucky enough to have two seperate daytime caracal sightings! Unfortunately my photos came out very blury.
We also eventually saw the dung beetles.

This was our 1st visit to Addo and we will definitely visit again.

Nice photos hillsfam!

Qcumba - the floodlit waterhole is at the main rest camp... it's the waterhole that you can see on this map on the right side:

www.sanparks.org/parks/addo/camps/addo/images/map/layout_big.jpg

You get a view of it from quite a lot of the camp accommodation.

The waterhole is just outside the main camp fence. From the main office buildings and shop area, there are walkways to the lookout and hide.
The sightings at the floodlit waterhole was from about 20:00 onwards. We spoke to other campers who are regular visits and they said that they previously had rhino sightings at similar times at night. You just have to go down around 19:30/20:00 and then be patient.
