I can remember visiting Addo and seeing Elephant-most of the time mere
mud-brown backs protruding from the bush in the distance and if we were
really, really lucky, actually see one up close.Sighting a Kudu was a rare treat and Buffalo,Bushbuck,Duiker and Steenbok were never seen(perhaps
only by a fortunate few).We spent endless hours watching the Flightless
Dung Beetles roll their stuff, fall off, recover, remount and start the pushing-
in-reverse action in exactly the same direction as before coming unstuck.
BUT,Addo was OUR sanctuary and we were proud of it.

Today,Addo is totally different.Enter the game park through the new
Matyholweni gate just off the N2 at Colchester, and you are in for a treat
while travelling through the lush Valley Bushveld(one of the five Biomes represented in the Park). You will most certainly see Bushpig,a great many
Warthog(some within touching distance),Bushbuck(even though they are
shy and elusive),so many beautiferous Kudu that you will run out of film,
and Elephant, not in the distance, but as close as you could wish for and
in numbers that will leave you speechless(I recently counted a family of
40 of all ages around my vehicle-some almost in stroking distance!).And then there's Buffalo and Zebra.....and Lion.

The Spekboom hide allows you an opportunity to stretch your legs(and visit the loo)while walking along a meandering footpath through the bushveld to the waterhole where you will see game -and Elephants up close). The new Main Camp also has a game-viewing hide overlooking the
waterhole(saw a Lion there last Sunday) and excellent facilities.
The Dung Beetles are still an attraction, but I swear their balls are much
bigger!

Nice post Andre,

It is truly great when nature flourishes.

Sanparks and all their staff need to be congratulated on all the hard work
they have put into it, it really has paid off.

I can't wait for the Addo webcam. :D

Andre, you most certainly are a great ambassador for Addo. :D
Lovely post!
