Gas "skottels" for hire? Does anyone know?

As far as I could see, It doesn't look like there are skottels for hire, but then I didn't need one and didn't ask either.

The "no bins" policy has been very successful in Kirstenbosch Gardens.

There are no gas facilites for hire at the new picnic site.

No mater what it is I cant wait to picnic there next time I am in Addo.

The gas idea isnt half bad, I wonder if the park would look at making it gas only. I mean thats much safer. Open fires in the hand of tourists are never a good idea.

Anyway South Africans love braai's so I doubt gas would ever happen anytime soon.

Btw the no bin policy rocks. Lets just hope everyone understands that this means clean up after yourself.

the new picnic site is fantastic.

i was there on 29/12/2008. was a scorcher of a day. the kids enjoyed the opportunity to stretch legs. bat and ball made the news.

until they saw the notice that the picnic area was not fenced in.

after entering the site over an animal trap and electric fencing, we were all of the view that no animals would enter.

but the thrill of doing what we do best in sunny sa (braaiing) knowing that we were in the true wild africa was fantastic

Definitely no plans for this to be a campsite.



Animals can't get over the electrified grid at the entrance gate to the site and animals such as elephants, buffalo, rhino etc. can't get through the Amstrong fencing surrounding the botanical reserve. But the fencing itself is not electrified, so lions, leopards etc. can (and have done so in the past) squeeze through the poles of the fence (or jump over).

Been there on 21 Feb. Fantastic idea. Made a skottel breakfast. Park attendants also very friendly - and the toilet facilities sparkling clean. Some of the sites are very private (for the honeymooners). Thanks to Addo management for this spot - now we don't have to rush back to camp to have breakfast.

My family and I had our first braai at the new site today!
Very quiet in one of the small private areas.....and easy to observe the visitors some from abroad as well as local. When they stroll along the site and suddenly read the signs...... ...it is as if the distance to their vehicle are measured with a unseen laser before a hasty return to safety!
In a way this will ensure that one always get a spot, but the idea was to create a place where you and your family can relax and have a braai before enjoying the rest of the Park.
I would like to encourage all to enjoy yourself after a quick scan for our carnivor friends.

Katenda, was it your boys playing cricket in the ring at the the picnic site yesterday.

My wife and me also stretched our legs there and enjoyed a picnic.
