Hi all,

Given that the park now includes the "Big Wet Two", what provision is made by SANParks (if any) to see the best views? Are there any tour operators that operate out of the Addo park or are there only private operators?

Does anyone have any strong reccomendations as to who to use? I'm thinking of their respect for the whales and sharks and how concerned they are about not overly invading their habitat.

All of this is for us to be in Addo in eary - mid October this year.

Thanks,

Benn

As far as I know it's only private operaters launching from the Yachtclub in PE Harbour.

Have been around a bit Benn so only spotted your thread now.

Not sure if you got more info, but you cab contact Raggy Charters in Port Elizabeth - they are the people who operate from the yacht club. Website: http://www.raggycharters.co.za/Welcome.html

I've done it with them last year and we were lucky to spot some Brides Whales. Best time to do will be in October when you are here. It is worth making the trip as they also go past the islands that is now part of the greater park and you can see oyster catchers, penguins and other marine birds... and if you are lucky also whales and dolphins. :)

The first Humpbacks that we have seen this winter passed by Schoenmakerskop (just west of Cape Receife) on Sunday morning (1 June 2008). From now until December whales will be visible in the Algoa Bay area on a daily basis, either localised (Southern Right whales) or passing up or down to the calving grounds in southern Mozambique (Humpbacks). Bryde's (pronounced "breeders") are also occasionally visible from the Schoenies during the Sardine Run and are sometime picked up on boat-based whale watching trips as Gerrit has suggested.

Thanks for the update, j-ms. Sounds like you've got great whale-viewing there.

Hi all,

Great information this - thanks so much. It's less than 4 months now and am very excited!

Irritma,

I think we'll definitely have to give them a try. Thank you.

Re:

>>Bryde's (pronounced "breeders")

I always thought it was pronounced "broodess".... :-)

Hi All,

Just wanted to know if there is anything we should be aware of before coming in to the Addo area in terms of Whale watching? Due to arrive in about 3 weeks.

Thanks,

Benn
