It snowed in Mountain Zebra National Park on Sunday 31 August. The temperature on Sunday night was -4 degrees Celsius

First Snow of the Year in Mountain Zebra NP

Unread postby Addo Elephant » Fri Jun 26, 2009 2:28 pm

The first snow of the year has fallen in Mountain Zebra National Park, covering the Bankberg and Bakenkop. Snow started falling on Thursday morning 24 June.

The photos below were taken by the Section Ranger yesterday and this morning. No roads in the Park have been closed because of snow but conditions are very cold and a little muddy. The best views of the snow-covered peaks are from the Kranskop Loop.

The mountain pass road between Cradock and Graaff-Reinet has been closed to traffic due to icy conditions.

More important to me. When is the last snow. I would like to camp there on the long weekend in August.

BB,
The long-term staff at the Park say its not likely to snow in August. "August is the windy month", they say, so pack your tent pegs.

Thanks AE, I am from the Cape, I know about wind. But maybe it is chilly.

It's snowing again in MZNP.

Here's a pic taken this morning of one our dedicated Working for Water teams venturing out to their project site (where they are eradicating the alien invasive jointed cactus) near Saltpeterskop:

Wondered if they had had snow at MZNP as I grew up about 50km away from the park.
