Hi nicole

If you have a look at the Leopard topic in this forum, you'll see there has been a discussion about this. It seems that there must have been some wrong information given out by someone at the gate (do you have a name?), or some kind of misunderstanding, as we only use recordings for management purposes when changing the collars of lions and then usually away from the tourist areas.

Four hyenas were captured out of the Park and taken to a private game reserve but this was done before August.

It's quite possible that the sounds you heard were not a recording but the real thing. Remember, the air is very clear, quiet and cold at night in the Park, making it much easier for sound to travel long distances. Hyenas are active at night, meaning they could be hunting and calling very close to the camp.

Hi. Our family stayed in the rondavels at Addo Main Camp on 6 Dec last year. My daughter and I were in no. 1 rondavel. At 10.30pm (approx) we were just about to turn our lights off when we heard the geese on the water at the lower dam go crazy. We looked out from the stable door and saw something coming across the waterhole from right to left. I thought it was a lioness as it looked so bright and one colour in the spotlight. I ran to get my binocs and when I got back I thought it had gone but the goose was screaming and going in circles in the middle of the waterhole!! Then I saw something crouched on the side of the waterhole beside a bush on the LHS of the waterhole and drinking. Looking throught he binocs I saw it had spots- a leopard!!! I gave the binocs to my teenage daughter and she confirmed it! It drank for about 5mins and then slinked off just as the mother and baby rhino arrived to drink. we've seen many leopards at Kruger so we did not realise how rare a sight this is until we told the restaurant manager at breakfast.I didn't think at the time to take a photo as it was soooo amazing to see it. sorry

Wow that was an amazing sighting!! Hopefully it will come to drink at the same waterhole again and be caught on the Addo webcam which is now up. See here

I suppose it's the time diff and so will make more of an effort. Did see the dead zebra at Orpen a few days back.. does anyone know what happened to it?

Hi,

i have read some threads on leopards in addo..

Are there any recent updates on how many there are in the main game area?

is there any chance of more being released into the park soon?

has anyone sighted a leopard this year/month?

We were there last week. Didn't see any myself, though the sightings board indicated at least 3 spottings that I remember: 1 on the Gorah loop, one in the vicinity of Hapoor dam and one in the southern section on one of the loops there....
