Two females and two (sub-adult) males. On the Gorah loop more specifically, a bit past Carol’s Rest, where you can see the fence (as you will see in some pics). We saw them in the early afternoon and than again in the evening when our patience was rewarded with a little bit of action. One of the males was quite active and playful. At a given moment he even went into stalking mode when he saw a warthog coming close. At that moment I was pretty sure that we were about to witness our first lion kill ever but no such luck.

Anyhow, a good sighting. Unfortunately, not very good pics. They were not very close and most of the time they were just in front of that fence which gives the whole series rather a zoo feeling.Well, yes we did.

Would some one be able to ID these lions? Many thanks.

Super pictures of the lions - thanks for sharing. My SO has had a back op and my visits to Addo have come to a stop - and I am so frustrated, so your pics sure help. Thanks!

Great photo's, Salva. We visited Addo (our 2nd in 5yrs) 26 - 29 Jun'11. We visited Carol's Rest, Gorah loop and the other potential spots a few times without any success of lion sighthing. Then one afternoon we explored the road to the south. On our way back, the hill between the southgate (in the middle of park) and Marion Baree waterhole where the open grass patch is, a beautiful male with a full darkish mane was resting in the long grass. We waited a few minutes hoping it will come to the road. But suddenly, when we looked to the side the female appeared from the long grass, walked towards our car and then went to lay in the road in front of us. She had a collar on and wondered who this could be? Perhaps someone might know. As it often happens, time does not stand still (esp in the park and when you had an interesting sighting) we had to make our way back in time for gateclosing. :D

At last managed to get my pics logistics sorted. Hewewith some pics of the 2 lions we sighed on the grassy hill on the road between Marion Baree waterhole and the southern gate.

First, we sighted the male lying in the grass...we waited for a while, hoping he will get up
Image

and then suddenly from the side, the female appeared walking slowly past us...
Image

then went and sit on the side of the road right in front of us.
Image

Hope someone can identify the collared lion...
