At long last! After many visits spanning more than four years I finally had an excellent sighting of some of the lions.

Hi DJN,
This lioness is Gina, with her two subadult male offspring. When did you have this sighting (date and time)?

Hi Megan

Thanks for the compliment and the ID.

This was on Thursday 14th April between 3:30 and 5:30 pm.

Hi Pumbaa

Thanks for the compliment. I had a long inquisitive stare from this young lion in the pic you refer to. Loved it!

Regards
Duncan

Here are two more pics from the same time:

They are growing up very fast. I saw the same 3 at also the same place. Just south of the first turnoff to Harvey's Loop.
This was how they looked months ago.

Hi DJN,
Maybe you didn't see my query above, but where and when (date and approx time) did you have this sighting?

Hi Megan

I did notice your post and I replied as well.
For clarity:

This was on Thursday 14th April between 3:30 and 5:30 pm.
Near the second turnoff to Harvey's loop (after entering the Park at the south)

Kind Regards
Duncan

Hi JJ

WOW! Lovely young lions! We missed them by minutes two days in a row at Marion Baree and the lookout above it, but you surely got them up close!

I hope so badly they are the three cubs that belonged to Kamqua and Gina, that grew up in this area -- had wonderful sightings of them in Dec/Jan 2008/9...

Have you got any more pics to share?

God bless,

Friedrich von Hörsten

Anyway, I was so happy to be able to spend almost two hours with them as they posed for me!

(maybe Mr Peter Betts can kindly ID them for me?)

These pics look like Gina and her two cubs but don't hold me too it. I'm not an expert but I came across them on 070611 at the top of the Ngulube Loop along with males, Nomad and Roy!
Great pics BTW!

I just wanted to share a story from our stay in Addo in Jan/Feb 2010. We stayed in one of the rondevaals (#4?) and one evening just as the sun was setting, the folks next door said "Lion!" and there was a male walking down to the water hole for a drink. I called my husband to bring his camera and we sat and watched and thought how fortunate we were. While we were watching a movement to the right caught my eye and there was a tortoise coming down to have a drink! Couldn't believe it. I thought the tortoise hadn't noticed the lion or had a death wish or something but it kept coming. So there we were with both the lion and the tortoise, not that far away from each other, drinking at the water hole at the same time and we got to watch from the comfort of our deck. Wonderful. The lion finally drink his fill and wandered off up the hill. He didn't go far and lay down with his back to the water. A little later the tortoise also finished drinking and started to leave BUT, you may find this hard to believe, but instead of heading straight up the hill, it went off on an angle heading for the lion. Insane. Up it went and when it passed the lion, it turned around and went head to head with king of beasts! The lion eventually got tired of this creature in its face and got up and wandered off.
It was such an amazing experience as if Addo itself with all the elephants wasn't enough. We did manage to take some photos but they are pretty bad as while we have a decent camera, we don't have any add on lenses and it was starting to get dark so the light wasn't very good at all. If anyone is interested, I can try to load them although I have never done that before.
