I was upset to see that the SAN Parks WNP have now planted no less than 120 wooden posts in the water in front of the Seeberg hide, effectively spoiling most photographic opportunities. It looks as if the post are about 5m apart and extend at least 2,5m above the water line at low tide. I understand you want to keep the kite surfers out, but this is ridiculous. In all the visits to this hide I have never seen a kite surfer or rower in front of the hide. Never. So if I missed these infrequent forays into the Park, by ill informed members of the public then I apologise, but this is certainly not a frequent occurrence which warranted this overkill. The money could rather have been spent on enforcing the speed limit in the park and saving animals being killed by speeding public and security vehicles or clearing the reeds at Abrahamskraal. If you know why it was done, I would really like to understand why this was deemed such a priority over all the other areas in the park needing attention. I looks like an unnatural, unsightly line of fence posts in the water.

Your query has been forwarded to SANParks PR, Touareg.

I have only been there once and almost got into an accident because most people in December in the park just want to get to the ocean and back. Driving in access of 80km/h im sure. I stoped to look at kudu and ribbok and had people almost drive into me and then even swearing because I stopped in the road to look an an animal. These people should be permanently banned from all SANParks as they are not there for the park and don't care about conservation one bit.

Agreed!

There has been a lot of comment (relative to the size of the park) about speeding.

Maybe the mods could forward these to the regional manager in charge of Southern Parks.

Surely the welfare of the birds - especially the migrant waders - are far more important than having a photograph with a 'clean' background?

For what it's worth not only have I seen kite surfers right in front of the hide (yes, disturbing birds), I have seen a pair of kite surfers on the beach in front of the hide.

Quite frankly I'd like to see a little more on-the-water enforcement (compared to the attention given to checking permits/tax), but the posts can only help.

:D

So more than a month now since I asked the questions. Doesn't anybody responsible in the WCNP want to answer?
