Aghulus at Xmas 2013

Unread postby JLC » Sun Apr 14, 2013 3:11 pm

We're thinking of hiring a few cottages for a large family Xmas this year about 12 people - can anyone advise if the cottages are close to the beach, how far from civilization and which are the best ones to try to get?

Thanks

There are several types of accommodation
The one is chalets which are on the beach front. Modern and really look nice
We stayed at some refurbished housies that are a short way from the beach and there are three. really thick walled Old farm houses .they are behind a gate to which only the residents have a key .. very quiet and lovely . The beach can be reached by car along a dust road and my what a beach!! secluded plenty place to walk .
God couldn't be everywhere so he made Grandmas

The Agulhas Restcamp with 8 chalets sleeping 24, is right on the beach to the west of the Southern Tip and the village Suiderstrand; 7km from L'Agulhas village with the shops, etc. Two types of cottages - 4 family chalets (two bedrooms) and 4 single chalets (one bedroom); fully equipped. All look the same with a sea view.

Another option of accommodation in the Agulhas Rest camp is Lagoon House. This house was built in 1898 by the Albertyn family of the Zeekoeivlei farm. Before that the local farmers usually came to this specific spot for Christmas camping holidays. Think ox or horse-drawn wagons through thick sand. Mrs Albertyn at the time dearly loved this spot and her husband decided to buy a few hectares and to build a house for her as an anniversary present. She was busy reading Blue Lagoon and since this area looked like a scene from the book, she decided to call it The Lagoon. Nearer to the sea and beach you will never find again. Sleeps 8, 4 rooms of which 2 is en-suite. The anglers of the area call it Pietie se Huis or Pietie se Punt, Pietie being Mr Albertyn.
