Tr.: I will soon visit Tankwa Park but have never been there and do not know what to expect. I will go in a 4x4 and there are two of us. I would like to stay in self-catering accommodation. Please recommend a camp that one can visit most places (of the park?) from. I am coming from the George direction.

Hi Henvon

I translated your post - hope I got the message correct  The language of these forums is English.

I have not been to Tankwa, we are going next weekend. I have done some research, and have you seen the map of the park? Do you wish to camp or stay in bungalows etc?

List of options for accommodation. It seems to me the park is fairly small so one can get around it easily no matter where you stay.

Hi DinkyBird,
Thanks for the translation. Yes i have had a look at the Park map and it is small. I do not wish to camp on my first visit. I was thinking of staying at one or all of the cottages at Varschfontein,Pauls Hoek and at De Zyfer.
I would like to hear from you after your visit there. There are conflicting versions of the road conditions in the Park. I do have a 4x4 so it should not really matter.

Hi Henvon,
If you have a 4x4 the road conditions won`t matter all that much.

This is a personal opinion and others will obviously differ but my choice is as follows in order of preference.
Paulshoek (5 kms from office complex) - typical Karoo farmhouse and ambience.
Varschfontein (the most remote) - also great ambience and privacy.
De Zyfer - good but very close to office complex, less privacy.

Of course there is Elandsberg with lovely views if you want something more modern.

I have not been to Tankwa Guesthouse.

Enjoy it wherever you stay. Drink in the Karoo,Tankwa is wonderful.
