we were extremely lucky on our visit on 14 August . A Caracal just beside the road. Lots of flowers on that lovely day.

Hi Koeksister, Nice sighting of a Caracal. Can you tell me where the sighting was please. I can't seem to ID the spot. I've checked out your link and gone through all your pics
Thanks

Hi Tony ,
A bit difficult to tell you exactly where the location of that Caracal sighting was. We came down the postberg and followed the Exit. :? to the left along the plane with lots of game.
Just on that road we saw the Rooikat and we followed to the right on a dirt road and than the Caracal run away. We never saw a Caracal before and we wondered what it was. But after some Googeling we find out.

I am planning on going to the West Coast National Park this coming weekend. Are there many different bird species there? :D And is there anything specific I should know?

If you are lucky CD, you can get s bird list at the gate.

Waders should be here, but they all look the same to me. You might be lucky and see osprey, fish & black eagle, African marsh & black harrier. The usual suspects should be there, like steppe & jackal buzzard, rock kestrel, yellow billed & black shouldered kite.

Thanks Bush Baptist. I have just recently started taking birding more serious and my SO and I are going to the WCNP on Sunday specifically to do some birding. I did print the birding list I found on the forum for WCNP to take with too.

Hi,

I went to the West Coast National Park last week and we didn't see a thing.

The only thing we saw was some ostriches with their babies and some tortoises. There was a strong south easterly wind blowing so it wasn't very pleasant.

We got out at the Geelbek viewpoint where that house is and we almost got blown off the rock.

Samantha

South easter is a fact of life here in the Cape. No clever bird or animal fights it.
Just man.

@Mant - Sorry you caught WCNP on a windy day. Yes the wind can blow in the Cape. I went into the park today and I did'nt even see one tortoise nor ostrich. But I did see beauty and diversity that left me with a sirene feeling and I just felt rejuvinated.
By the way viewpoint you refer to is not Geelbek but Seeberg. Geelbek is an old refurbished Dutch homestead that has history dating way back. Its worth seeing if you are in this area again.
