I got so excited about this that it inspired me to register for the 1st time on here and write up my story!

I'm a tourist guide (and have been for a very busy 10 years) and while driving with clients on Signal Hill Drive, on Wednesday 16 September, in broad daylight, I saw a caracal casually sauntering through the fynbos and across the road. Probably slightly closer to the kramat than to the car park at the end of the road. This was my 2nd sighting ever, the other being in the Addo Elephant National Park last year. I could hardly contain myself, let alone explain to my clients what it was and what a rare treat it was, in the short time before it disappeared!

I'm waiting for my clients to email me the picture they took. They felt bad that it came out a bit blurry but I assured them a blurry photo of a caracal is still something quite special!

I told my friend and fellow hiking companion Andy N. about it. He said that he's also seen caracal twice: On the slopes of Lions Head, above Fresnaye, close to the top houses where people walk their dogs, and near the top of Table Mountain on the India Venster route.

There have been a couple of caracal sightings along the Constantia greenbelts as well. But not when I am strolling along them

This is very exciting. I was checking out the forum, since I'll be in Cape Town for only a weekend in about two week time. Imagine being able to spot a caracal in Cape Town. I've also had 2 caracal sighting, both during September past in Addo Elephant National Park. We had to seperate daytime sighting, in two completely different areas and cleary two different animal - one was a big handsome animal and the other obviously a young animal, but no less handsome. The younger one was about 3m from our car. We felt so privledged.
Will be looking out for the resident caracals in CT - maybe its our lucky year!
