I am walking around without a jersey today at about 15C. Sunday warmest? Freezing? Gobbledygook! Has freezing point been promoted to 20C :hmz:
Whatever (according to BB): "You are correct but I don't want to admit it".

First time on the forum. Would love to know where the best flower sightings are at the moment as well. Anyone knows? Planning to drive from CT tomorrow and was wondering whether a trip to the Postberg is worth it or whether we should just hit stright for the farmer's market in Riebeeck Wes?

My vote would be for the farmers market in Riebeck Wes -- there you can stock up for a picnic in WCNP on Sunday

Has anyone got an update on the current situation with the flowers in WCNP?

It's only 4 sleeps ( plus a no-sleep on the plane :( ) until we're in the park, and then off to Papkuilsfontein near Nieuwoudtville for a couple of days. What are our chances of seeing a reasonable display?

I'd be grateful for any info anyone can give. Thanks. 8)

We drove through the WCNP on Sunday. We did not go to Postberg though. The flowers near the Langebaan entrance were spectacular. As well as up at the Seeberg view point.
The following photo was taken up at Seeberg....

I can only think that Postberg is just as spectacular!

That is stunning Caracal, I hope there will be a few flowers left at the end of September. We might be visiting over that last weekend.

Wow, Caracal. If we get views that are half as good as that I shall be well satisfied!

Thanks for posting that pic. :D

It is a pleasure Anita..the WCNP will not disappoint you.
See here for some close up photos of the flowers. First of all one is just gobsmacked with all the daisies..but look carefully in between the masses and you will be surprised at what else you see. Maybe you will find some different flowers to add to the thread :D
Enjoy your trip

Thanks, Caracal. I know we'll have an awesome trip!

I'll try to find some flowers to add to the thread.

Hi Anita Gibbs...
Flowers in Postberg were the best so far this season on Sunday. Really good and the game viewing alone makes it worth it.
I was also in Nieuwoudtville last week and visited the Matjiesfontein farm. It was quite good and was supposed to improve. Visit the tourist info for other nice sites like the waterfall.
If you have a chance - Skilpad and the adjacent Namaqua National Park were spectacular! Thats near Kamieskroon on the N7.
Good luck and enjoy!

Altho not WCNP here we go...

Matjiesfontein Nieuwoudtville, apparently more species of bulbs here than anywhere in the world.

The rest is in and around Skilpad and Namaqualand National Park

Thanks for the info, o-dog.

We're doing a three-day tour with a guide who knows the area very well, and she has more or less planned our itinerary so it's somewhat out of our hands.

The preliminary list includes:
WCNP inc Postberg, Van Rhynsdorp Succulent Nursery, Van Rhyns Pass, Nieuwoudtville Wild Flower Reserve and New Botanical Garden, Matjiesfontein Farm, Kokerboom Forest, Flower circuit (explore various gravel roads to find the best flowers), Waterfall reserve, Papkuilsfontein, Oorlogskloof Nature Reserve, Pakhuis Pass and back to Cape Town.

It sounds pretty busy, so I think we'll need the rest of our holiday to recover!

Amazing photos, o-dog! If we only had the time we'd go to Namaqualand National Park (our guide would have liked us to) but we have to spend time with my daughter-in-law's family in Cape Town, and then three days at Addo. Sadly, funds wouldn't stretch to more than two weeks. :(
