Flower Season - WCNP

Unread postby Tony T » Fri Jul 30, 2010 1:46 pm

Well its that time of year when veld flowers strut their stuff. When every living creature is full of the joys of spring. The Postberg gate opens to visitors on Sunday 1st. I believe there are flowers in Postberg but they have not reached their peak or even close to it. In the next 2 months though I will keep this thread updated on the progress of the flowers, so watch this space.

Here are a few photos taken in the park to wet the appetite.

This one I took this week on Seeberg lookout point- as you can see the flowers are not yet in full bloom.

How close is this park to Cape Town? Do you think flowers still in bloom towards end September?

Lovely lovely thread - Thanks

WCNP is about a hour's drive north of Cape Town. The peak of the flower season can be variable, but there will still be plenty of flowers at the end of September, even if it is past the peak. And the Postberg section of WCNP stays open through 30 September.

WCNP is one of my favourite places. If you go, be sure not to miss the beach and rocks at Tsaarsbank, where you will be likely to see the endangered African black oystercatcher and other interesting birds.

@TonyT: Your pix are making me homesick, but I'll be back in Darling in September

Hi there,
These photos I took in Postberg on Monday this week. It was misty on and off and cold so this was not a bad showing. But lets see what happens say in 10 days time.

Hi there,

Just some photos I took of the flowers on Monday which I thought you'd enjoy.

On a sad note, the Honorary Rangers tuck shop and info centre both burned down on Friday last week. We lost most of our stock.
But our Park Home was spared, which serves as our book shop.
Monday tho' we were up and running again, using a spare room as a make shift kitchen for hotdogs and hot drinks.

I will keep on updating this thread with photos of the flowers.

Yes, we were there last Friday. There are still flowers. Not so many, but more than enough to reward walking one of the trails. http://elephantseyegarden.blogspot.com/ ... -west.html

I love these amazing flowers

I know it varies each year, but can anyone tell me whether there is a period when you can be sure of seeing lots of flowers?

Have been thinking of booking some time there next year, but don't want to get there and find there are no flowers

We were thinking of the beginning of September?

Hi vgs -- the flowers depend on the amount of rain that falls in winter, but, generally speaking, the beginning of Sept should still have quite a show

Postberg is only open for Aug and Sept too.

Good luck & hope to see you there next year
