I'm looking for info on the following about Postberg in the West Coast National Park:
- Is Postberg a private reserve that has been incorporated into the park - ie is it still private or is it officially part of the West Coast National Park.
- Is there a granite outcrop called Preekstoel in the Postberg Flower Reserve.
- Is Kraalbaai in the Flower Reserve?

Hi and welcome to the forums! :yaya:

Postberg is indeed part of the WCNP. Have a look in this topic for tons of info and photos, dates to be there etc.

Hi roelien & welcome to the forum.

Postberg is an 'inner' part of WCNP, and is only open to the public between (i think) 1 August and 15 September every year, which is the wild flower season.

Hi roelien and Welcome!

Postberg is a "contactual" part of WCNP, which (I'm quoting the WCNP leaflet here :) ) "means that it is private property managed by SANParks". It is only open for the months of August and September (in general that means 1 August - 30 September).

According to the map in my WCNP leaflet, the two granite outcrops in Postberg are called Konstabelkop and Vlaeberg. If there is also a Preekstoel, it is not shown on this map.

Kraalbaai lies outside the Postberg reserve, so is accessible year round.

The narrative on this Flickr page says: "ended up here at the PREEKSTOEL Viewpoint inside the WCNP overlooking the Langebaan Lagoon", so it looks as if it is in the WCNP. I don't know if it's in Postberg though. :D

Given that the photo was uploaded on 25 May and the text refers to its having been taken on the "past weekend", it would appear that "Preekstoel" (which is not on my map) would NOT be within the Postberg reserve.

Hi Roelien, welcome to the forum and enjoy your visit to the WCNP and Postberg. The info you've been given is very accurate. Preekstoel is the name given to a sandstone formation on the high tide watermark in the bay just before you reach Postberg. It is known for its "warm" water which makes swimming a pleasant, almost Meditteranean, experience. The water is
extremely calm and sheltered from wind.A million years ago, it was our favourite venue for water-skiing!!The Preekstoel is signposted and has
ample space for parking. :D :D

Do Yellowtail still spawn at Churchaven?

There are ablution and picnic facilities overlooking the beach with Preekstoel. This is a fantastic swimming place for children as it is extremely safe. It can also boast as being the oldest swimming beach in South Africa as it was at Preekstoel that the famous Eve's footprints were found!

This are is outside the Postberg and is just before the end of the tar road

Hi All, this is the actual "Preekstoel" found just before Kraalbaai where the footprint of Eve was discovered. The water here is approximately 10 degrees warmer than those of the Atlantic just around the corner :D In the backgroup you can see Postberg area and Kraalbaai.
