Foiled Break-in Augrabies

Unread postby gotaloveit » Sun Jan 26, 2014 8:13 pm

Just to give you a heads up..

On 5th Jan 2014, on our return trip we spent 2 nights in the 'semi-luxury' chalets looking at the falls..

At around 9:30pm while in the shower the power/electricity tripped. Not fussed I slowly made my way around and checked the inside dB board and saw everyone's lights were still on. My gf some how knew there was a dB board around the chalet. I noticed the 2 switchs were down, the door opened and the box cover opened. I simply turned them back on and made our way inside.

Met our neighbor standing outside (and keeping lookout unbeknown to him) who said thanks for sorting it out. Then started thinking that they actually weren't trip switches and couldn't have tripped.. Anyway within 2 mins we had the lights off and in bed. Then a knock on the door. Went to see and there was a dodgy looking coloured (fyi) guy in a baseball shirt asking to come in and help with the power... Noticed he was more interested in seeing what was inside our chalet I kept the curtain tightly closed which peed him off and he slowly tried to open the door.. Small talk small talk... Then disappeared into the dark..

Thank God it was locked and I didn't open it.. Who knows what would have happened...

Felt safer inside and left everything locked as I didn't know how many guys were outside...

We left at 5am the following morning and there was No one to report anything.. I will notify San parks and saps ASAP..

I waited for the feed back request from Sanparks and I gave them all the details and asked someone to contact me... as yet, i have had no reply. Please send this one and someone contact me ASAP.

Just be vigilant at night and even more so when the power 'trips' if our neighbor wasnt outside don't know what world have happened either...

shows you always to be careful
and my first thoughts were how did they know so quickly the electricity was down
but Augrabies does have warnings inside the chalets to be on your guard
not only for the baboons but also for other elements

I am aware that between the elephant incident, the hunting safari lion, the suspension of member of staff,
birding issues etc, the staff and the forums have been busy!
But I think we need further comment on this incident and possibly a security upgrade!
Many thanks.

Thanks!

All they need to do is lock the back gate between each chalet and better still lock the electricity box within that area, so no one can simply open it and turn off the power!

I will gladly be of further assistance should it be required...
