Thanks for posting that clip shane.

I watched it all, and actually enjoyed it.

The wildlife that was shown seemed unaffected by it, and that is my major concern. To have my sighting ruined by a drone, and to have it invasive in my space.

I could not see anyone sitting on the loo or showering either, and that would be a major concern.

The bit over Melkvlei seemed to be the only part where SANP has jurisdiction, and people were getting out of their vehicle on a road, albeit the approach road to the camp. Since there is no fence, where does the camp start & finish?

BB don't be mistaken the shot of the lion under the A frame was done with a hand held video camera , those type you place on a bicycle ,(as we where there at the time and it was our camp site) and also of the Kudu's, looks like it was taken at Cubitjie Quap as they did come up north

The lion below welcomed us Rooiputs campsite in Dec 2013. A few other visitors drove through our camp site that day and from the video posted by shane it shows very similar images of the lion.

Here is a photo of the drone he used

Dear all

The response from the park manager regarding drones in SANParks KTP is this:

Quote:
I am not aware of such, if it has been done, then it was without approval, we do not allow such activities to take place in Kgalagadi.

If you guys can please put all the evidence you have of drones in KTP (SANParks side) - exact date, time and place, with photos and other relevant info, in an email and send it to Lesego (Lesego.Nko@sanparks.org) so she can forward it to the relevant folk to follow up it will be appreciated.

Now the park manager can be aware that drones are used on the SA side as well as is evidence in the video

Thanks PRWIN.

I realize that not all of the footage was taken by the drone, and there might be more invasive footage taken that was not included in the clip.

I am sure it is fun flying theses toys and fun filming at the same time, but not in National Parks. I think that is the long and short of it !

Imagine approaching auchterloine museum to find a drone hanging above the road in front of you ? Sorry unacceptable. Have a look at this clip from Bernd Zinnenburg and tell me this is acceptable ?:

Another clip south of mata mata by the same person:

I leave you with the above clips to decide .

@PRWIN the guy had to get out the car and to retrieve - a good 5-10m.

I will send to the necessary people, can someone forward the correct person to address and their contact details.

I hope the park authorities take the necessary measures to ensure this new problem is 'nipped in the butt'

I go the park every year because there is no electricity no cell phone reception endless horizons so I can enjoy the sounds of silence and nature not interrupted by man made noise
If even KTP is not safe anymore where o where do I have to go in the future

Send it to

Jan.Kriel@sanparks.org

THere is no way that the drone was retrieved and set off without breaking the normal rules in the Aub valley.

Thanks to Matthew Schurch, we have tracked this Mr Zinnenburg to another clip where he films in Augrabies:

He is also filming in Kruger national park.

Happy to report that Lesego and Jan Kriel who are looking into this matter as I write.

One problem we are having finding this Mr. Bernd Zinenburg. Any ideas how SANParks can track him down ? If you do, I suggest sending your information to either Lesego or Jan and not post it on this forum. Mr. Dean Polley's detail have already been obtain and sent to SANPArks.

As I am still looking forward to my first visit to these parts, I found these videos absolutely riveting!
They would make wonderful promotional material. Not that the area needs much promotion or we won't be able to get a booking!
I can understand that we don't want dozens of these overhead but I think they may already be in use in anti poaching activities.
A few more controlled eyes in the sky may help detect other illegal activities!

Anti Poaching ?

I'm not an expert, but these small drones have an effective range of +- 300m with a battery life of +- 30-45 min.

If you are looking at Military Type drones (that have an effective range/ air time ect) you are looking at $ 4 - 16 Mil

Hi all!

Please follow the requests here by myself and send the info you have to Lesego.

SANParks will then investigate and deal with the matter. Please send your info via email and let SANParks take it from there. Posts giving contact details of people alleged to have filmed with drones in the park will be removed.
